Description
Nelson's Summerhouse and the wall to the rear garden of Cholderton House were built in 1758. The summerhouse is made of brick and has a slate roof. It features a single cell behind a wall that is raised over the entrance, creating a large triangular gable with half-round brick copings. The entrance has a four-centred arch with key and springing blocks, and the key includes an incised date. This opening is now infilled with glazed doors. The summerhouse is reputed to have been used by the Nelson family, who were the former owners of Cholderton House. The wall is approximately 3 meters high and has a half-round brick coping that extends about 30 meters southeast from the summerhouse facade to meet an outbuilding. The wall gently slopes down to the jambs of a central opening.
