Description

Forsters Cottage is a detached cottage that was originally built as a national school in 1834 and converted in the 1980s. The building is constructed of limestone ashlar and features an artificial stone slate roof with an ashlar stack, which formerly supported a bellcote. It has an L-plan layout and is a single-storey structure with six windows.

The central gabled porch has a Tudor-arched doorway that includes a hoodmould and an eight-panel fielded door. On either side of the porch, there are three square-headed, two-light windows with cusped lights and hoodmoulds. The right and left returns of the building each have a tall square-headed, two-light window with cusped lights and hoodmoulds. The rear wing features gabled half-dormers that contain two-light, square-headed Perpendicular-style windows with hoodmoulds, along with quatrefoiled lozenges above the windows. This cottage is a good example of a little altered village school, showcasing fine architectural details.
