Description

DURRINGTON CHURCH STREET SU 14 SE (south side) 6/146 Nine Hayden monuments in churchyard, approximately 3-7m south of south aisle

GV II Group of 9 monuments in three rows, all limestone. East row: Two ridged coffin tombs with one headstone to a child aged 4, died 1730, a winged angel's head on a shaped top. Centre row: from north: (a) Ridged coffin tomb, illegible. (b) Large ridged stone with sandstone headstone, to Alice Puckney, died 1697. (c) Chest tomb early C19. Moulded and hipped table and moulded base. Recessed corner fluted pilasters. Inscription in panel to Benjamin Hayden, died 1816(?). (d) Low chest tomb with inscribed ledger slab, to John Hayden, died 1830. West row, from north: (e) Ridged coffin tomb with headstone, a cushioned panel with carved surround, probably early C18. (f) Low chest tomb. Inscribed ledger slab to Hinstagg Hayden, died 1848. (g) Similar. Inscription to Elizabeth Hayden, died 1828, and daughter, died 1848.
