Description

Queensberry Bridge is a road bridge over the River Avon, built in 1775 by John Smeaton. It is constructed from limestone ashlar resting on elm plank foundations. The central section features three segmental arches made of rusticated voussoirs and raised keyblocks, which meet a string band at the base of the parapet. At each end of the bridge, there is a smaller single arch that is similarly designed. The bridge has cutwaters on both sides of the piers. The parapet includes a raised central panel with the incised inscription MDCCLXXV on each side. The structure widens at the abutments and is finished with rusticated quoins.
