Description
No. 2, known as Leighton Villa, is an early 19th-century building that was originally a bailiff's lodge for Leighton House, with some features possibly dating from the later 19th century. The villa is two storeys tall and constructed of red brick, featuring a stone plinth, cills, and lintels. It has a hipped slate roof with two off-ridge chimneys. The first floor has three windows, while the ground floor has two, all of which are glazing bar sashes. The central doorway is adorned with stone brackets supporting a flat hood, and the door itself has three moulded panels, a running dog pattern on the lintel, and lozenge glazing in the overlight.
In front of the villa, there is a dwarf stone wall that encloses the garden, with rusticated end piers and spearhead railings, including flame-type dog rails and a central gate. To the right of the villa is a stable that is set back from the road. This stable is also made of brick, has a hipped gable end with a slate roof, and features segmental-headed coach doors with a two-light casement window above.
