Description

No. 24 Warminster Road is an early 19th-century building that stands three storeys tall, constructed from ashlar Bath stone. It features a projecting plinth, with the ground and first floors separated by six incised panelled pilasters that have moulded caps. These pilasters support a plain frieze, a moulded cornice, and a blocking course. The second floor is divided by narrower, similar pilasters, each with a carved stele at the base, a plain frieze, a small moulded cornice, and a blocking course adorned with panelled blocks over the pilasters, each topped with delicately carved antefixae.

The building has a slate roof and five square windows on the second floor, which are currently blocked. On the first floor, there are five windows set in rectangular recesses, with cills extending across the space between the pilasters. These windows are fitted with glazing bar sashes. To the right on the ground floor, there is one window in an arched recess and a doorway located in an arched recess beneath the second first-floor window from the right. The doorway features a large three-panelled door with an incised line and key patterns in each corner, topped by a plain rectangular fanlight that is now set back, revealing the enriched cornice of the hall.

The rest of the ground floor is obscured by a modern verandah, which hides the original design of the building, although it remains a good example of its period. The two right-hand bays include cast iron arrow head rails, dog rails, and a gate. At the rear, the building has a brick elevation with stone strings, a cornice, and a coping to the parapet. There are three windows on the second floor, which are single hung glazing bar sashes, while the first and ground floors feature tripartite windows with segmental overarches. The ground floor also has a central doorway with sidelights and marginal glazing in the overlight, and there is a basement.
