Description
This early 19th century building comprises two adjacent properties on the south side of High Street. It is constructed of ashlar bathstone and stands three stories high. A plain string course runs along the front at the level of the second-floor window sills. The building features a plain projecting frieze and a moulded cornice with a blocking course, shaped over the central window. Splayed quoins are present. The upper floors have seven windows. Ground-floor windows are distinguished by eared moulded architraves, small moulded entablatures and blocking courses. The central ground-floor window is particularly prominent, framed by Doric pilasters, an entablature and a pediment. A four-centred arched yard entry, detailed with rusticated quoins, voussoirs and a triple keystone, is located centrally on the ground floor. Number 10 has a 20th century shop front. Number 11 retains a 19th century shop front and features a six-panel door with a rectangular fanlight, set within a plain surround of strip pilasters and a small cornice. The properties form a group with numbers 1 to 12, the Town Hall, numbers 131 to 144, and the Midland Bank.
