Description
A pair of cottages, built in the early 19th century as part of the Bowood estate. They are constructed of rubble stone with a thatched, half-hipped roof and a prominent cluster of four diagonal ashlar stacks positioned centrally. The cottages are arranged over one and a half storeys, featuring flush quoins and stone mullion windows.
The south front has a distinctive pair of eyebrow dormers above the first-floor two-light windows, and to the right, a ground-floor three-light window with a hoodmould, and a doorway with a thatched gabled hood. The cottage to the left mirrors this design, although it has a canted bay window where a window once stood, and the gabled hood over the doorway is now made of stone slates. The left end wall features two-light windows with hoodmoulds on both floors. The rear of the cottages has two first-floor two-light windows beneath eyebrows, and ground-floor additions. The style is comparable to the cottages on Sandy Lane in Calne Without.
