Description
High Bank is a cottage that dates from the 17th century and 19th century. It is constructed of brick and malmstone, likely replacing an earlier timber frame. The cottage features a thatched roof and is two storeys high with four bays. The central two bays include a half-glazed door on the left, which is accessed by four steps and has a thatched canopy above. To the right, there is a small canted bay added in the 19th century. The building has a one-storey and attic dormer that has been raised to two storeys. The left bay may be a rebuild of the original single-storey structure, featuring paned casement windows and a 20th-century lean-to at the rear. The right bay has been refaced in the later 19th century, but a heavy truss is exposed on the return, and this bay was extended to the rear in the 18th century by one bay, with further extensions made later.
