Description

Home Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the 16th, 17th, and 19th centuries. It is constructed of limestone rubble and features a stone slate roof. The building is single-storey with an attic and consists of five bays, with a mid-19th century brick front wing covering part of bays three and four. Bay five, which is now used as a farm store, has a right lean-to attached to its gable. There is a boarded door in the second bay, with a roof that extends down to form a verandah. An open 20th-century porch is located at the rear. The windows are timber casements with timber lintels, and there are three gabled dormers and two stacks.

Inside, there is a cross passage in bay two behind the major stack in bay three, featuring a chamfered timber lintel and stone jambs. Bay two has one pair of crucks and a higher roof line. Bays one and two were originally used as a dairy, with a cheese store accessible through a trapdoor above, but they are now a kitchen and attic store. The principal rafters have small stepped curved braces set to the lower part of the wall, and cambered collars halved over the principals with single pegs. Bay four has a canted external stack that is now enclosed in bay five, which was formerly a brewhouse and is now a tractor garage. The chamfered spine beam in bay four has a swept stop and notches.
