Description
The Malthouse is a 17th-century farmhouse, later adapted as a detached house, with a 1970s extension. It is constructed of dressed limestone with a tiled roof and has gable-end brick stacks. The main front has three windows, and features a 20th-century porch with an inner chamfered stone doorcase. Flanking the porch are three-light recessed chamfered mullioned casement windows. A string course marks the first floor, above which are three-light mullioned casements, including a two-light window in the centre. The right return has a two-light mullioned casement to both the ground floor and the attic, and a blocked mullioned casement to the first floor. The rear elevation features 20th-century mullioned casements, a glazed door, three two-light casements to the first floor, and three 20th-century gabled dormers. A 20th-century extension to the left of the front is faced with stone at the front and brick at the rear, and incorporates reset two-light mullioned casements. The interior retains chamfered beams, an open fireplace with a Tudor-arched timber lintel set within chamfered stone jambs, which incorporates a bread oven. A south-facing room on the first floor has a blocked open fireplace and a wainscot panelled door with butterfly hinges. A north-facing room on the first floor has a stone, chamfered square fireplace with the date 1688 scratched into the jambs.
