Description
The Village Hall, dated 1873, is a house and village hall that was formerly a school, built for the Bowood estate. It is constructed from squared rubble stone and features a stone slate eaves roof. The building has stone mullion windows set in flush surrounds, barge boards on the main gables, and flush quoins. To the left, No 57 has a ridge stack and a gable front with a 2-light window, a hoodmould over the door, and a 2-light window in a stone slate lean-to. The main hall gable projects and includes a date plaque, with a long mullioned 3-light schoolroom window below. To the right, there is a wing gabled to the east, with a shallow oriel on the south front that breaks the eaves, featuring a 2-light window and barge boards. The east end wall has a canted stone bay with a 1-2-1-light arrangement. The rear right has paired gabled wings. The building is included for its group value and is marked as a school on the 1863 estate map.
