Description

The M. Chanter monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard, about 2 meters south of the Broome monument and northeast of the north aisle of the Church of St. Bartholomew. This tomb dates from the mid to later 18th century and is constructed of ashlar. It features two raised plaques on each side, with fielded angle piers that have a central rosette and a sunk floral drop between the plaques. The monument has a moulded base and cornice, with a fluted frieze that is broken forward at the angles and in the center. The south side of the tomb bears an inscription dedicated to Mary Chanter, who died in 1747.
