Description

This is a First World War memorial, erected in 1921, with later additions commemorating those lost in the Second World War. It stands opposite All Saints' Church. The memorial is approximately 3.3 metres tall and consists of a two-stepped square base, topped by a square plinth and a tapering shaft of granite, bearing a sword and a Celtic cross. Lead lettering gives the inscription, which reads: “TO THE GLORY OF GOD / AND IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF THE MEN / OF THIS VILLAGE WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR / KING AND COUNTRY IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 – 1918 (NAMES).” Further names of those who died in the Second World War have been added to the memorial.
