Description
24 and 26 High Street is an early 19th-century corner building located near the Close. It has three storeys above a basement and is primarily constructed of red brick, with No 26 featuring a stuccoed and painted ground floor. The corners of the building are chamfered at both the southeast and northeast. The windows are glazing bar sash types, with brick flat arches above them and stone cill bands. No 24 has one range of windows on each face, while No 26 has two ranges. The entrance to No 24 is round-headed with a moulded surround, located on the southeast corner. There is a mid-19th-century shop window surround with reeded pilasters to the right (currently featuring modern plate glass) and a 20th-century shop window to the left. No 26 includes a round-headed yard entry to the left and a mid-19th-century shop front to the right, which has panelled pilasters (now with applied urns above) and a central entrance. The rear of the building has been altered but still retains small arrowhead railings along the curve leading to the Close.
