Description
Fairlawn and Merestead are a pair of estate cottages built in 1841 by Mr. Wheeler for Joseph Neeld. They are constructed from coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings and feature stone-coped gabled roofs covered with stone slates. The cottages have a double-depth plan and stand two storeys high, with a two-window front and entrances in projecting bays set at right angles on either side. Designed in the Tudor Revival style, they have hood moulds over chamfered stone-mullioned windows with three lights on the front. Each front elevation is enhanced by a fine Jacobean-style stack that rises between paired gables. The side elevations feature similar one and two-light windows, and the shallow-arched entrances have chamfered surrounds. The interior has not been inspected.
