Description
Whitakers Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse constructed of rubble stone, topped with a stone slate roof that features an axial stone stack and gable end stacks with moulded cappings. The building follows a baffle entry plan and is two stories tall with an attic, displaying a four-window façade. A 20th-century porch is located to the right of the center, leading to an inner door with six fielded panels. To the right of the porch, there is a two-light ovolo-mullioned casement with a hoodmould, while to the left, there are two three-light mullioned casements, also with hoodmoulds. The first floor has four two-light casements, with a straight joint between the right-hand bay and the three to the left. The attic features three gabled dormers, each with two-light casements. The rear of the house includes two-light casements and 20th-century casements, as well as a 20th-century lean-to extension attached to the left, supported by a raking brick buttress. Inside, the farmhouse has chamfered beams. There is some evidence suggesting that the rubble stone walls may have been rebuilt from a timber-framed house. A timber-framed barn that was formerly attached to the right side has been demolished since the original listing.
