Description

ATWORTH CHURCH STREET ST 86 NE (south side) 2/46 Four monuments in the churchyard between 12 and 17 metres north of tower of Church of St Michael and All Angels GV II

Four chest tombs. C18 and C19. Limestone. South of group has two grooved panels to main sides, reeded pilasters and moulded weathered top, inscription to Ann Davies died 1801. Next north has fluted pilasters, blue lias panel with inscription to Mary Eyles died 1807 and William Eyles died 1820, fluted frieze to weathered top. Square pedestal tomb to north west has panels and fluted pilasters, steep pitched hipped top, illegible inscription. Late C18 tomb on north east side of group has two panels, fluted pilasters and quarter balusters, fluted frieze to moulded flat top, illegible inscription; tomb badly sunk at time of survey (November 1986).
