Description

Outmarsh Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 18th century to the early 19th century. It is constructed of rubblestone, stuccoed to the front, with a stone slate roof, hipped to the right. The original two-span roof was L-shaped in the early 18th century, and an early 19th century wing was added to complete a rectangular form. The farmhouse has two storeys and an attic, with five windows across the front. The central doorway is within a 19th century gabled porch, flanked by single 16-pane sash windows. Evidence of a blocked earlier window sits to the right. A continuous string course runs above the windows, below a plat band to the first floor. The first floor features five two-light flattened-ovolo mullioned windows. Four hipped dormers, each with a casement window and small ball finials, are visible on the roof. To the right is a single-storey dairy extension, now a kitchen, with a coped stone slate roof and a single 12-pane sash window. The left return has a margin-light window and a casement window to the ground floor, with two casements to the first floor. The rear of the 19th century wing has a single two-light chamfered mullioned window to both the ground and first floors, with a stone slate roof featuring a coped verge and kneelers. To the left is a single-storey lean-to extension, originally the cheese room, with a pantiled roof. The first floor of this extension has two two-light chamfered mullioned windows. A single hipped dormer is present on the hipped roof slope. Internally, some alterations have been made, but the original exterior wall between the front of the farmhouse and the rear 19th century addition retains a two-light chamfered mullioned window.
