Description

The Semington Aqueduct is a structure that carries the Kennet and Avon Canal over Semington Brook. It was built in the late 18th century to early 19th century and is made of limestone ashlar with some areas patched with engineering brick. The aqueduct features a single stilted segmental arch, which has channelled voussoirs. Above the arch on each side, there is a rectangular moulded panel that has no inscription. The structure is topped with an ashlar parapet that has weathered coping and swept revetment walls. The Kennet and Avon Canal was constructed between 1794 and 1807, under the survey of John Rennie.
