Description
Alkerton House is an 18th-century house located on the east side of High Street in Cricklade. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble and features a Welsh slate roof. The building is two storeys high and has four window bays, which extend to the left by an additional two bays and a further link. The entrance is located in the first bay of the main building, featuring a round-headed opening with a six-panel door and a decorated fanlight, all set within a Doric portico that has a flat entablature. The ground floor has twelve-pane sash windows with nearly flush boxes, along with two windows that have shaped blind boxes. The house has moulded eaves and ashlar gable stacks. The first bay to the left of the door is blind on both floors and dates from the 1860s. The structure includes one part with a hipped slate roof, while the other part and the screen wall are slightly stepped back and feature a coped parapet. The screen wall has a doorway and a blind window above.
