Description

The west monument in the churchyard, located about 5 meters southeast of the S. Neale monument and north of the north aisle of the Church of St. Bartholomew, is a double chest tomb from the early 18th century, constructed of ashlar. The south chest tomb features two south-facing plaques that are segmental-arched and adorned with keystones, imposts, and foliate decoration above. It has pilaster centers and angle piers, with similar plaques at the ends. The inscription commemorates James West, who died in 1729. Attached to the north is a similarly sized tomb that has two fielded plaques facing north, fielded end plaques, and a moulded base and capstone. The inscriptions on this tomb may date to around 1690, including one for J. West Senior.
