Description

Emu Paddock is a house dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, constructed of rubble stone with a stone slate roof. It features a rebuilt end wall and ridge stacks. The building has two storeys and an attic, consisting of two sections with a ridge stack between them; the west half is from the 17th century, while the east half is from the 18th century.

The south front displays 17th-century ovolo-moulded stone mullion windows, with two 2-light windows above and a 2-light and a 3-light window below, both of which have hoodmoulds; the 3-light window also features a relieving arch. There is a central door located in a gabled stone-slated porch, along with one central dormer. The right section includes one dormer to the left, two first-floor 2-light stone mullion windows, and one ground-floor 3-light window with a hoodmould, all of which are flush cyma-moulded.

At the rear of the 17th-century section, there is a 2-window range of casements and a door leading into a mid-19th century ashlar porch with a slate lean-to roof. This area features a front 9-pane shouldered-head window and a similar entry on the east side. To the left, there are 2-light cyma-moulded flush mullion windows, with one above and two below, both with hoodmoulds. Emu Paddock is the last remaining building of the former hamlet of Upper Foscote, which was removed for estate improvements. The Neeld family kept an emu at this location.
