Description

No. 63 St Mary Street is a house that has been converted into a dental surgery. It dates from the early 18th century and features squared limestone rubble that is rendered at the ground floor. The building has a freestone eaves cornice, pilasters, platband, plinth, and dressings, topped with a stone slate roof that includes a brick stack at the rear. A central hipped dormer contains a 3-light casement window, and there are wrought-iron brackets supporting the gutter.

The house is two storeys tall with an attic and has a two-window range. On the first floor, there are tall slender 9/9-pane sash windows with old glass, set in raised segmental-arched surrounds that include keystones cut into the lintel. On the ground floor, to the left is a 19th-century paired plate-glass sash window, and to the right is a 19th-century six-panel door with an overlight, along with a 19th-century cast-iron bootscraper positioned in the centre. The rear of the building is gabled with a stack on the right side and features a small-paned 3-light casement window in the attic. The lower floors have tall sash windows with edge-roll moulding on the architraves, with 4/4 panes on the first floor and 6/6 panes on the ground floor, along with a door to the left. The interior has not been inspected.
