Description

This is a chest tomb located in the churchyard about 1 metre east of the south aisle of the Church of St. Bartholomew. It dates from the later 18th century and is made of ashlar stone. The tomb features a plinth, a moulded base, and a cornice with a pulvinated frieze that projects forward on each side over a fielded plaque, which is flanked by fielded strips. The earliest date that can be read on the tomb is 1744, and there is an inscription at the west end dedicated to S. Shepherd, who died in 1795.
