Description
The Poplars is a villa built around 1830, featuring two storeys of partly colourwashed brick and a very low pitch hipped slate roof. The building appears to have originally had a projecting right-hand bay, but the wall on the left is brought forward to align with the roof line, which is set back on that side, and has leaded eaves. On the first floor, there are three recessed sash windows, each with four panes. The ground floor includes one similar sash window to the left, a later marginal glazed sash window off centre, and a marginal glazed French window to the right. The entrance features a recessed six-panel door and a notable stone porch with Ionic columns, wall pilasters, moulded bases, and necking, although the volutes have blank faces. The entablature above the porch has small dentils along the cornice. The northeast side of the villa has two sash windows on the first floor and two marginal glazed French windows on the ground floor.
