Description

This is a commemorative arch set in the wall on the east side of the front garden of Nos 21 and 21A in The Close. The arch, which dates from 1830, is pointed and partly rendered, built into an old stone rubble wall made of brick. It is tall and features chamfering. At the base of the arch, there is a low wall with a panel that contains a dedication by W. Lyle Bowles to his predecessor, Canon William Cox. All the listed buildings in The Close form an outstanding group.
