Description
North Lodge is a lodge built in 1856 for Joseph Everett, situated on Bishopstrow Road, Sutton Veny. It was designed as an entrance building to a country house. The lodge is constructed of rubble stone with limestone ashlar detailing, topped with a Welsh slate roof. It features four ashlar chimney stacks. The building is single-storey with an attic. A prominent Tuscan portico, with two columns in an antis style, faces the drive; it contains a central four-panelled door within a moulded architrave, and a pediment above displaying the date 1856 and the Everett family crest. The left return (side) displays three twelve-pane sash windows set within moulded architraves, featuring chamfered rusticated quoins. A lean-to extension with a slate roof and a lunette pediment projects from the rear. The right return also has twelve-pane sash windows. The interior of the lodge has not been inspected. To the right of the lodge are dwarf ashlar walls with cast-iron spearhead railings extending to three ashlar gate piers, each topped with ball finials, and featuring double spearhead gates. The design is very similar to a lodge located on Norton Road.
