Description

Meadow Cottages is a pair of cottages dating from the 17th century, with some rebuilding in the late 19th century. The ground floor features irregular English bond brick, while the first floor is constructed in 19th century Flemish bond. The cottages have a thatched roof with brick stacks and are one storey with an attic, containing three windows. On the left and right sides, there are glazed doors set in early 20th century gabled porches. The windows on the ground floor are three 3-light casements with segmental heads, and the first floor has three gabled dormers, each with 2-light casements. The right and left returns have one cast-iron casement on the ground floor. The eaves of the gables are deep. Inside, the cottages feature chamfered ceiling beams. Historically, in 1649, a Parliamentary Survey identified this building as the Parsonage, and it was marked as the Rectory on an 1820 parish map. Around 1880, a fire led to the remodelling of the original 17th century structure, which had been timber-framed in the 16th century.
