Description
Turnpike Cottage is a pair of cottages that have been combined into one dwelling. They date from the late 18th century or early 19th century and are built from rubble stone with a stone-tiled roof and a coped gable at the north end. The building features a north end wall stack and a ridge stack on the original party wall. It is two stories tall, with a one-room plan for each cottage.
On the right side, there is a door set in a flush stone surround, topped with a hood supported by brackets, and to the right of the door is a damaged two-light flush mullion window, which has had its jamb and mullion removed to accommodate a 20th-century metal window. The left side has a three-light window on the ground floor, with the end light featuring a timber head and jamb, and a two-light window on the first floor. There is a blocked door and a two-light window above in the south end wall. The cottage is prominently located at the west end of The Green and is listed for its group value.
