Description
Vagg's Hill Farm is a farmhouse that has been converted into a detached house. It features a restored datestone on the stack inscribed with "P 1615 E" and was restored in the mid-20th century. The building is constructed from rubble stone and has a stone slate roof with coped verges and stone stacks.
It is two stories high with three windows on the front. The main entrance is a 20th-century glazed door located to the right of the center, while to the left are three-light and two-light ovolo-mullioned casements, each with hoodmoulds and relieving arches. To the right, there is a 20th-century three-light casement. On the first floor, there are three-light and four-light mullioned casements with relieving arches and hoodmoulds, the latter featuring a king mullion, along with a three-light wood mullioned casement to the right.
The left side of the building has a three-light ovolo-mullioned casement on both the ground and first floors, and a two-light mullioned casement in the attic, all with hoodmoulds. There is a blocked vent above the attic window. The rear of the farmhouse has a central cylindrical projecting stair turret topped with a conical roof. This turret includes single-light 20th-century casements, with good 20th-century doors made from reused materials on either side, a two-light mullioned casement to the right, and a three-light casement to the left. The first floor features a two-light ovolo-mullioned casement to the right and a 20th-century leaded casement to the left.
Inside, the building has been partly restored in the 20th century. The stair turret contains winding stairs with a continuous newel. The interior features chamfered beams with stepped stops, a reused beam in the room to the left of the entrance, and a fine moulded Tudor-arched stone fireplace with reeded console brackets and a strapwork frieze, along with a moulded cornice. The first floor also has moulded fireplaces.
