Description
The cross shaft, dating from the late medieval period, is located adjacent to the east wall of the south porch of the Church of St Mary the Virgin in Brixham. It is made of granite and features a tapered octagonal shape with convex stops at the base. A notice in the church porch indicates that it is believed to have originally stood at the triangle where the old Brixham Road meets Churston Avenue. For many years, the shaft supported a staircase in a farm. It was presented to the church by Lord Churston in 1939.
