Description
10 and 12 Temperance Place are three houses arranged in a single L-shaped range, built in the early 19th century, likely as a remodelling of a 17th century or earlier structure. The buildings have solid rendered walls and a slated roof that is hipped to the right. There are three brick chimneys on the rear wing, one of which is painted. The front of the houses appears to be a single-depth range, while the rear wing at No. 12 has taller storey heights, suggesting it may be a later addition.
The houses are two storeys high with garrets and feature three windows across the front. The doorways are centrally located, with the entrance to No. 10 set back in a wide opening with an old wood lintel, while No. 12 has a 19th century plank door with a centre ogee-moulding. The two left-hand upper-storey windows of No. 10 have 19th century three-light wood casements, each light containing three panes. Other windows, including those in the rear wing, have 20th century wood casements. The ground-storey window at No. 10 also has an old wood lintel. There is a late 20th century dormer at No. 10 and a gabled dormer, possibly from the 19th century, on the rear wing of No. 12.
