Description

The stables and coach house located to the north-west of Cockington Court in Torquay are early 19th-century structures that have undergone some 20th-century alterations. They are built from local stone rubble with brick details, and some sections are roughcast. The building has a gable-ended slate roof and is arranged in an L-shape, extending north-west from the rear of the north-east crosswing of Cockington Court. This crosswing projects to the north-east next to the main house, while the main block faces south-west towards a narrow cobbled courtyard situated between the stables and coach house and the rear garden wall.

The main block features a roughly central carriage entrance, with the south-west elevation displaying an irregular front that includes some 20th-century garage doors, alongside several smaller original doorways and hayloft hatches, as well as unglazed windows. The carriage entrance has a flat arch, a loading hatch door, and a lunette above, all under a gabled cross roof. There are also two 20th-century stone buttresses to the right of the carriage entrance. The stables and coach house are part of a particularly attractive group of listed buildings within the park and the surrounding unspoilt village.
