Description
This lamp post is located approximately 10 metres north-east of the Town Hall porch in Torquay. It is likely from the same period as the Town Hall, built between 1910 and 1911. The lamp post is made of metal, probably cast-iron, and is one of a group of five situated outside the Town Hall, originally lit by gas before being converted to electricity. It features a thick cylindrical base with an egg-and-dart moulding, topped by a baluster-shaped foot adorned with acanthus leaf decoration. The cylindrical standard supports three globes, with the outer globes mounted on a ladder rest and secured with scrolled brackets. This lamp post is an attractive example of historic street furniture and holds significance for its group value with the Town Hall, which showcases fine external ironwork.
