Description
Nos. 131 and 133 Portland Terrace are a pair of houses located at the left end of Portland Terrace in Torquay, built around 1840. The houses are plastered with a slate roof and have two rendered chimney stacks on each side. They are designed as a double-depth, mirror-plan pair with entrance blocks on the left and right, featuring a piano nobile.
The exterior consists of three storeys and a basement, with two-storey entrance blocks. The symmetrical front has four bays plus one-bay entrance blocks. The bays are recessed between pilaster strips and have platbands. The ground-floor windows are 12-pane sashes, the first-floor windows are 6 over 9-pane, and the second-floor windows are 3 over 6-pane. The first-floor windows are adorned with attractive cast-iron balconies that have fleur-de-lis finials. The entrance blocks feature eaves brackets, 3 over 6-pane sash windows, and doorways with plain architraves. The interior has not been inspected but may contain interesting features.
