Description
Nos. 52-54 Bathampton Street is a terrace of three cottages built between 1845 and 1846 for the Great Western Railway Company. The cottages are constructed from coursed limestone rubble with ashlar quoins and have slate roofs. Nos. 52 and 53 are two-storey buildings with one bay each, while No. 54 has two bays. The cottages feature twenty-pane doors set on a splay and four-pane sash windows. There are also stone walls and an outbuilding in the rear yard. The properties underwent extensive renovation around 1974. This terrace is part of a village designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel to accommodate workers for the Great Western Railway, making it one of Britain's best-preserved and architecturally significant railway settlements.
