Description
Earlscourt Manor is a building with an 'L' plan, primarily dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, but it also contains significant earlier features. The manor has been completely modernised and consists of two storeys, with a west wing that includes an attic. The structure is built of rubble, with some brickwork, and features a 19th-century replica of half-timbering on the east face of the west wing. The roof is covered with stone tiles and is hipped to the right, with squat modern chimneys.
The south front of the manor shows that the gable of the west wing projects to the left. It has a 2-light window above the door and three 3-light windows, all of which are modern leaded casements with wooden lintels. The gable of the west wing features 2 and 3-light oak mullion windows, some of which are original. The rear of the west wing retains close-studded timber framing with herringbone brick infill, which appears to be from the late 16th century, and includes ogee bracing, with rubble on the ground floor. There is a catslide roof to the rear of the east wing, and a bread oven projection is located on the east side.
Inside, the manor features Jacobean stairs with turned balusters and some contemporary panelling in the hall. There is a fine stud and plank partition in the stair hall, and the east side includes a fireplace with a bread oven. On the first floor of the west wing, there are intriguing features that likely relate to a late 16th-century timber-framed house, including a lobby with a low Tudor arch doorway.
