Description
Westrop House and the west service extension to Westrop House were built in 1878 for William Crowdy, Lord of the Manor. The building is two storeys high, with an attic and basement, and is covered in creeper-clad ashlar stone. It features a band over the ground floor, a cornice, and a parapet. The hipped slate valley roof has two ashlar chimneys with moulded capping. The facade consists of six bays, with the central two slightly recessed, and includes glazing bar sash windows. The attic windows feature a central lunette that is concealed. The central two ground floor bays are adorned with a semi-circular Doric portico that leads to a six-panel studded door with sidelights and a pair of knockers. The rear elevation has flanking angled bays and a square portico supported by Doric columns, with a tripartite window above that has blind side lights. Inside, there is a square stair hall with a coved ceiling lit by a lunette at the front, and stone stairs with a sweeping cast iron balustrade featuring a honeysuckle pattern. Several original features have been preserved, including enriched cornices on the ceiling, door furniture with ivory inlay, and a columned fireplace in the dining room.
