Description

  1. 5410 CHISELDON BURDEROP Burderop Cottage and stables to north (formerly listed as Two ranges of outbuildings facing onto forecourt of the main house at Burderop Park) SU 18 SE 11/146 2.8.74

  1. Late C17 origins, partly rebuilt 1768 (datestone in west chimney stack with initials W.C. (William Calley). An 'L'-plan building; the east front balancing the stable block on the eastern side of the lawn/forecourt of Burderop Park. Two storey south front, 1 1/2 storeys to forecourt. Coursed limestone rubble. Stone slate roof. East front: symmetrical with early C18 sash windows in stone, eared architrave surrounds and similar surround to doorway; brick relieving arches; traces of early C17 openings. South front: rendered with chamfered quoins. Four windows, renewed glazing bar sashes and a C19 canted bay window on the ground floor. Two storey gabled projecting entrance bay. The rear elevation retains some 3 light cavetto moulded late C17 stone mullioned windows. Lower outbuilding range to west. Interior of stable interesting with 5 stalls, divided by ramped partitions with acorn newels, and a coved ceiling.
