Description
Saltrop House is an early 19th-century country villa. Constructed of ashlar, it features a cornice and parapet, and a slate roof. The west elevation has five windows, with glazing bar sashes. A two-story, three-window bow projects centrally, featuring a wrought iron balcony on the first floor. A central glazed door on the ground floor is approached by steps. The outer ground floor windows are tripartite, with reeded pilasters and segmental recesses above. A band course runs at floor level and pilasters are present on the sides. The south elevation has four windows, and the east elevation has six, with set back outer windows and an arcade of arched recesses on the ground floor. A three- and two-story staff wing is located to the north, built of gault brick. A high stone wall encloses the garden, with gault brick on the south side and brick gate piers. The interior features a top-lit staircase with cast iron balusters and an oval turret light. A Gothick style plaster cornice is found in the ground floor bow-window room.
