Description

Bishopstone Church of England School is a board school dating to 1849, built in a Tudor irregular style. The building is constructed of chalk with ashlar quoins and dressings, and features tiled roofs and diagonal chimney stacks. The windows are casement windows set in chamfered reveals.

The original design included a single-storey school room to the right, with a central gabled porch and a four-centred arched entrance featuring a dated keystone. Flanking windows are present. A belfry was originally situated above the porch but has since been removed. To the left is a two-storey wing in an ā€˜L’ shape, with a band above the ground floor and a range of windows in the gable ends. A hipped porch sits at the angle of the wing, featuring ogee-braced posts. A later 19th-century extension was added to the south-east. The building is included on the register for its group value.
