Description
The Filton War Memorial is a First World War memorial that features a stone tablet added later to honor those who lost their lives in subsequent conflicts.
Constructed from granite, the memorial consists of a roughly-hewn Latin cross that sits atop a tall tapering plinth, which is mounted on a square base. The front (south) face of the plinth displays a dedication in raised lettering that reads, "TO THE GLORY OF GOD/ AND/ TO THE GLORIOUS/ MEMORY OF," followed by the names of individuals who died during the First World War. Below this dedication, the inscription continues with, "MEN OF FILTON / WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR COUNTRY/ IN THE GREAT WAR/ THEY DIED THAT WE MIGHT LIVE/ ERECTED BY THE RELATIVES AND FRIENDS." In front of the memorial, there is a granite stone tablet that states, "IN COMMEMORATION OF THOSE/ WHO LIVED AND WORKED IN FILTON/ AND WHO LOST THEIR LIVES/ IN WORLD WAR TWO/ AND SUBSEQUENT CONFLICTS."
