Description
The Pillbox at Filton Airfield is a non-standard pillbox from the Second World War, likely built in 1940. It is made of brick and features concrete embrasures with iron shields, along with a concrete roof.
The structure has a rectangular shape with canted corners at the northeast and southwest. There is a low projecting blast entry at the southeast corner, and the interior is divided into two areas by a brick partition.
On the exterior, the pillbox has two rectangular embrasures on each side, positioned at different heights, and each has concrete lintels and sills. The brickwork around the southeast corner embrasure is partially collapsed, exposing more of the iron shield. Both the main structure and the blast entry have concrete roofs.
Inside, at the north end, there is a brick pier that supports an iron machine gun mounting set on a concrete plinth.
