Description

This is a late mediaeval building, originally with alterations made in the 16th and 17th centuries. It is constructed of rubble and has a double Roman tiled roof. The building is two storeys high with attics, featuring two steep gabled ends topped with finials. There are two windows on each floor. The first-floor windows are 2-light casements with moulded mullions and transoms, leaded lights, and square dripmoulds with return stops. Small oval windows, set within enriched square panels and featuring decorative leaded light glazing, are located high in the gables and between them. The ground-floor windows are also 2-light casements with mullions, although the transoms have been removed, and also have square dripmoulds with return stops. The main entrance has a heavily moulded pointed arch. To the left of the doorway are two further 2-light casement windows with dripmoulds. A short rear wing is notable for its large stacks. The interior reveals evidence of windbracing in the roof, and a number of chamfered spine beams with run-out stops. Two doorcases are present in the passage; one has a four-centred arch head, and the other features ovolo moulding with decorative stops. The building forms part of an important group of gabled houses, alongside numbers 24 and 28.
