Description
The Russell Monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard about 8 metres north of the chancel of the Church of St. Arilda. It dates from the early 18th century and is made of limestone. The tomb features a flat top with a moulded edge and has clustered fluted shafts at the corners. There are decorative panels on the east and west sides that include shields, as well as double inscription panels on the north and south sides, which are set in shields and flanked by a central fluted engaged column. At the time of the survey in July 1984, the monument was noted to be in poor condition. It commemorates Thomas Russell, who died in 1728, along with other family members.
