Description
The boundary wall, approximately 200 meters long, is located opposite numbers 7 to 13 (consecutive) on Oakdale Court. This 18th-century wall formerly enclosed the gardens of the now-demolished Cleeve House and currently serves as the rear boundary for 20th-century properties in Cleave Lawns. It features fine Flemish bond brickwork, although the northern end has been reduced in height and constructed from coursed rubble with weathered stone coping. The wall stands about 2.6 meters high, decreasing to approximately 2 meters at the northern end, and includes regular brick piers. At both ends, there are blocked Gothick doorways; the northern doorway in Oakdale Court has brick jambs and a pointed arch, with walling that sweeps over the arch and a short length of horizontal coping. Beyond this doorway, the wall curves away in a quadrant and returns to a short section that is approximately 4 meters high, stopping at the orangery adjacent to number 33, Oakdale Court. Attached to the wall are the roofless remains of an apple store.
