Description
This barn, located about 20 metres south of Church Farmhouse, has origins dating back to the 17th century and was remodelled in the early 20th century, possibly by Harold Brakspear. It is constructed from limestone rubble with stone dressings and features a stone tiled roof that has raised coped verges and kneelers. A gable stack on the south side includes hexagonal chimneys, and there is a wrought iron finial on the north side.
The barn has a cruciform plan. The east elevation displays a projecting former cart entry topped with a hipped roof, and an 8-light mullion and transom window has been inserted, featuring ovolo mouldings and a hood mould. All windows are fitted with leaded lights. To the left, there is a single-storey lean-to with a similar 2-light window, while to the right, there is a weathered external stack, a cross window to the left, and a 6-light window to the right. The east elevation also includes a weathered buttress and long and short quoins.
The right return has a cross window, and the left return features a single-storey addition with a door and a 2-light window at the rear. The rear of the barn has two cross windows to the left, a cart entry that is repeated with a pitched roof, and a door with a 4-centred head and moulded surround, complete with decorative strap hinges and sidelights. An additional lean-to is located to the right. The interior has not been inspected.
