Description

This is a terrace of fifteen small houses located on Adelaide Street in Stonehouse, Plymouth. The terrace was designed in the mid-19th century by John Foulston. The houses are constructed of stucco with stucco detailing, and their roofs are hidden behind stuccoed parapets. Most houses feature a moulded cornice, while number 10 has a pediment and entablature over giant end pilasters. Brick end stacks are also present.

The houses are arranged with a double-depth plan, featuring one room at the front and a side entrance, predominantly on the left side of each property. Originally, the windows were twelve-pane hornless sashes, though many now have glazing bars removed or have been replaced with later, horned sashes. The ground floor windows are round-arched and set within recessed round-arched panels, with number 10 featuring a tall two-storey panel and a mid-floor band. Two doorways retain their original moulded hoods on consoles, along with overlights, and some have panelled doors.

The interior of the houses has not been inspected, but may retain original features.

This terrace represents a rare survival of a planned group of houses by Foulston, showcasing a simpler style compared to his work around the Hooe.
