Description
The boundary wall to the former Royal Naval Hospital, located on the northwest side, was built between 1758 and 1762. This high rubble wall stands approximately 5 meters tall and features two doorways. It was designed to prevent the desertion of patients, who were often recruited by press-gangs. This wall is an important part of the hospital's design, which was the first of its kind, with wards arranged in blocks to help control the spread of disease.
